The Elmsdale COTN (Church of the Nazarene) was organized in 1917 and we recently celebrated our 100th anniversary (July 23 2017). It is situated on the corner of Dock Road and Western Road in Prince Edward Island – Canada.
The Church of the Nazarene is an evangelical Wesleyan-Holiness denomination with headquarters in Lenexa Kansas USA. Its theological emphasis on holiness comes from writings of John Wesley the founder of Methodism in England and the 19th century Holiness Movement. (www.nazarene.org)
During the holiness revivals of the of the late 19th and early 20th century Phineas Bresee and others came together from various parts of the USA to form what is now known as the International Church of the Nazarene (official date of merger October 13, 1908) .
The International Church of the Nazarene recently identified seven priorities for the life of the church. They are:
- Meaningful Worship
- Theological Coherence
- Passionate Evangelism
- Intentional Discipleship
- Church Development
- Transformational Leadership
- Purposeful Compassion
